Last Monday, January 25, the Arthur Miller Foundation hosted an event at the Lyceum Theatre to celebrate the playwright’s centennial in 2015 (he past away in 2005). All the proceeds of the event were destined to the Foundation, which supports arts education in the New York City public schools (read more about the Foundation at http://arthurmillerfoundation.org)
Hosted by Rebecca Miller, Co-Chair of the Foundation of Arthur’s daughter, the event featured a great number of actors to read passages of some of Miller’s plays. The evening started with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo giving a keynote speech and explaining the importance of the Arts in the school curriculum and praising the work that the Foundation has been doing.
Following the introductory remarks, the audience was able to hear passages of Arthur Miller’s autobiography, as well as scenes from Death of a Salesman, The Price, After the Fall, and All My Sons. You can view the full list of the actors in the picture below:
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to hear scenes from The Crucible or A View From the Bridge, probably because the latter is still currently playing on Broadway (as we already reviewed and is wonderful) and The Crucible will open within a few weeks.
It was a beautiful and insightful evening. Listening to Arthur Miller’s words is a treat to anyone who genuinely enjoys theater.
Finally, after the event, I was able to see some of the actors leaving the theater, so I took some pictures and I’ll share the good ones with you!
