Once again, we’re at the end of the awards season, with the Academy Awards taking place on Sunday, March 12th!
This year is one of the most competitive ones in recent memory, which makes it harder to predict the winners, but also more exciting to watch the show!
Months ago, no one would have thought that Everything Everywhere All at Once would be able to get so many nominations, let alone be considered the favorite to win Best Picture, especially with The Fabelmans and Top Gun: Maverick also in the running. Yet, after winning the Producers Guild Awards, the Directors Guild Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning the Best Picture category at the Oscars is almost a sure thing.
Something else that is unique this season: there was no overlap between the winners in the acting categories at the BAFTA and at the SAG Awards.
So all four acting categories are still wide open, with some favorites from earlier in the season losing important awards in the past few weeks. Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) is still the frontrunner in the Supporting Actor category, even though he lost the BAFTA to Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin). The most competitive race is the Best Actress category, with Cate Blanchett (TÁR) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) splitting up the awards this season.
It is sad, however, that Danielle Deadwyler, who gave an exceptional performance in Till, wasn’t even nominated.
Here are our predictions for the main categories:
