I finally got to see Creed, after almost 6 weeks of its release. To be honest, I wasn’t so excited to watch it, but a couple of friends convinced me that it would be good. Besides, Sylvester Stallone is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Almost 40 years after Rocky (1976), Sylvester Stallone reprises the role that made him famous, but this time he’s on the sidelines. The main character is Adonis Johnson Creed (Michael B. Jordan), Apollo Creed’s son, who wants to be a professional boxer and seeks Rocky’s guidance. Adonis doesn’t use his last name at first, because he wants to make a legacy of his own, without the pressure of his famous father’s name.

The movie is generally well paced, but I just felt that it was a little bit too long. The fights are very well choreographed and the way they were shot was impressive. Michael B. Jordan does a good job as Apollo’s son and Sylvester Stallone is playing very well our well-known Rocky. Having said that, I don’t think that justifies a nomination for the Oscars and a likely win, since he’s already won the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards. If he does win, it will probably be because he’s lost for Rocky before, and not because he’s better than the other nominees, at least in my opinion.

All in all, it was an enjoyable experience and it was great to hear that famous “Rocky song” in a theater, with a proper sound system.
