Before I talk about Allegiant, I would like to stress, again, how much I don’t like this “trilogies turned into four movies” wave that’s been going on recently. I haven’t read the books, but I feel like Allegiant had a big problem with its pacing, which probably wouldn’t be so grave if it hadn’t been transformed in “part 1”.
This third movie begins with Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) are trying to go beyond the wall along with Caleb (Ansel Elgort), Peter (Miles Teller, responsible for funnier parts of the film), and Christina (Zoë Kravitz) (if you would like a bigger recap, you can read my review of Insurgent). Tris meets David (Jeff Daniels), who tells her something about her past that changes her life. Meanwhile, in Chicago, a war is about to start between Evelyn (Naomi Watts) and Johanna (Octavia Spencer).
I was a little disappointed, to be honest, because I was expecting more of Allegiant. The main problem, as I mentioned, is the editing and the pacing. I felt like some parts were missing, especially near the ending. It looked like they realized they had to end the film, so a few things weren’t fully explained.
Having said that, I think it’s an entertaining movie, mainly due to the cast. Miles Teller’s character is probably the most interesting to watch, and his performance is great. I feel like there’s not much too say about Allegiant, since we’ll only have a conclusion to the story next year, but I think they could have ended it in a more interesting way instead of rushing things…
