After years of being the target of parodies and criticism, Disney finally learned how to make fun of themselves – and of everyone else too! Ralph Breaks the Internet, the sequel to 2012’s Wreck-it Ralph, is funnier and smarter than the original, while keeping Disney’s tradition of conveying a message to their audience.

Six years after we last saw them, Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilley) and Vanellope (voiced by Sarah Silverman) are inseparable friends. Every day, they have the same routine of getting together after work and going to other games and explore. Ralph couldn’t be happier with his life, while Vanellope starts to question if what she has is enough to make her entirely happy.

During an attempt to try to cheer Vanellope up, Ralph ends up breaking her game, which gets unplugged. The only way to save it, the duo learns, is to buy a new steering wheel online. Luckily for them, the new Wi-Fi system has just been installed, and they decide to go inside it, despite the warning that the internet is something new and, therefore, dangerous.

That is when the real adventure begins, with the two friends trying to figure out this whole new world where constant pop-ups are trying to divert you from your path, search engine tools complete your thoughts and the entertainment possibilities are endless.

If Vanellope had already started questioning her life, going to the Internet only made her sure that she needed to change. She finds a racing game called Slaughter Race and fells in love with it, as well as becomes friends with one of the characters (voiced by Gal Gadot). Ralph, of course, doesn’t like this new friendship and his insecurities begin to show more clearly.

From creating viral videos to gather “likes” and make money, to getting to know the “Oh My Disney” website, their journey online is both incredibly entertaining and scary at the same time, since the audience is bound to recognize some of their habits on screen and realize how much time and energy we have been spending online.

The funniest scene happens when Vanellope meets all the Disney princesses! This highly anticipated moment does pay off, with the princesses making fun of themselves and even telling Vanellope she needed a song of her own to be a true princess (which she ultimately gets, in another hilarious scene).

The movie will surely be appreciated more by adults or older children, since it talks about choices in life, what it means to be a true friend, and the pressures of the social media. It is a great sequel and a worthy addition to the Disney canon.
