If you like long movies, harsh dialogues and an enormous amount of violence, also known as a “Quentin Tarantino movie”, you’ll enjoy The Hateful Eight. However, if you are like me and don’t enjoy all this graphic blood shed spread throughout almost 3 hours of film, you should probably watch something else at the movies.

Set in Wyoming a few years after the Civil War, the film focuses mainly on Daisy (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who was captured by John Ruth (Kurt Russell), a bounty-hunter who’s taking her to be hanged in Red Rock, a town nearby. During their travel, they meet Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and Sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins) and they give them a ride. Due to inclement weather, the group is forced to make a stop in a house where they meet other four men who are also waiting for the snowstorm to pass.

From that point on, the action basically happens in that house. As usual, Tarantino focuses a lot on the dialogue – fast and never-ending. There are a few flashbacks (one of which is extremely graphic involving Samuel L. Jackson’s character), but we’re basically trapped inside that house with them.

The story itself didn’t interest me that much. There was a moment, though, when I caught my attention: there is a mystery to be solved! However, it reminded me of an Agatha Christie story, so I knew the ending but I was too tired to care about the motive of the crime.

It probably will be nominated to a lot of awards, since Tarantino is always recognized by his screenplays, but I don’t have any intention of seeing it again. I really think this one is designed for those true Tarantino fans, and not for everyone.
